I think this would be equally as lovely on a live tree with white garland, but I started with a pre-lit white tree I purchased from Overstock (confession, this is the first fake tree I have ever purchased). Strips of colored cellophane (purchased at Michael’s Crafts Store) were cut into 3 x 1-inch strips. I used hot pink, kelly green, turquoise and yellow gold. The biggest time element was the cutting of the strips. For this 7′ tree, David cut 100 of each color (sorry David). I not only wanted them on the tree, but I wanted them to be scattered all over the floor around the tree to create a magical moment.

Step two was adding a few ornaments. I like to clean out craft supplies at the end of the year and it’s no surprise I was sitting on a ton of glitter! So the glitter globe was born! We took clear glass ornaments and used a paper funnel to fill them with layers of glitter! They sparkle so beautifully when the sun hits them through the window. The plus is, if I wanted to save the glitter, I could just pour it out of the ornaments later.

Lastly, to set the mood on the tree we placed it near a window for the natural light to hit it and add dramatic sparkle. When we did, it was just too “bright” on the tree, so the coolest thing happened. We cut pieces of the colored cellophane to cover the panes of the window…INSTANT MAGIC!!!
